The Yelcho Bridge is a spectacular cable-stayed bridge located in the Los Lagos region of Chile. Situated at the mouth of the Yelcho River on Lake Yelcho, in northern Patagonia, in the central-southern part of the country, it lies approximately 46 kilometers from Chaitén and 280 kilometers from Puerto Montt.

The bridge is part of one of the world’s most legendary roads, the Carretera Austral. It is set in an unparalleled landscape, at the foot of the northern Patagonian mountains, with a view of countless water bodies and in an area with extreme vegetation. Construction on the bridge began in the mid-1989 and was completed by the end of 1990. It was built with the aim of connecting this region of the country, which was slightly isolated at the time and relied on water transportation, often requiring ferries to reach certain places.
The Yelcho Bridge spans about 150 meters in length and rises about 50 meters in height. It is made of reinforced concrete and is supported by steel cables. It was the first bridge of its kind built in Chile. Construction was challenging, as many of the materials and machinery had to be transported from the Chilean capital, over 1,300 kilometers away.
